I was way out in the woods, behind the Kentucky Star Motel, when I first saw the Tiger. I hadn’t thought about mom since the morning of her funeral…the morning I couldn’t stop crying…I hadn’t cried since either. Not since dad had said “There ain’t no point in crying, crying ain’t going to bring her back.”
That had been six months ago, and now we had moved into the Kentucky Star motel where dad did maintenance, and I suffered from being beat up on the school bus and at school. I’d learned to ignore it though. It ended faster that way.
Then, Sistene showed up. Yeah, like in the Sistene Chapel. Sistene Bailey from Philadelphia. She hated the South because the people there were ignorant and her father was coming to get her "next week."
Sistene knew her mind, and nobody and nothing would keep her from trying to accomplish what she set out to do...like free the tiger.
