Booktalk:
Gulo the Savage from the lands of ice and snow was hunting his brother, Askor, and the Walking Stone. Gulo, the vicious wolverine, had killed their father Dramz himself, but only he who had possession of the Walking Stone could rule the land of snow and ice. And, Askor had stolen the stone and fled like a coward through the Great Northern Sea. Little did Gulo know that a storm had blown over an old rotten sycamore on top of Askor, snapping his spine and killing him. But, he had survived long enough to tell the two wandering travelers that He had won and Gulo would never find the Walking Stone. So, when Gulo’s ship was wrecked, he simply tore through the countryside with his hundred vermin warriors destroying and eating everybeast they met. Rakkety Tam and his pal Doogy were thus lucky that they were imprisoned for refusing to take part in the latest ludicrous ceremony of Squirrelking Araltum and Idga Drayqueen. They missed the slaughter that resulted when Gulo and his savages interrupted the proceedings. Unfortunately, the king and queen had survived while most of their troop had perished. The vermin had made off with the Royal Standard, and Araltum agreed to release Rakkety Tam and Doogy from their bond if they would return the Royal Standard to him. Little did Rakkety Tam know that he would be needed to help protect the famed Redwall Abbey, nor that he would have to face the Savage Gulo in single handed battle, nor that he would have the help of the great sword of Martin the Warrior.
