Booktalk:
I panicked when the wave crashed down on me and my surfboard and I fell down, down, down into the ocean. Desperately I tried to reach the surface when it hit me--the surfboard that is. It seemed like time stood still. Everything was peaceful and detached.
And then, I saw her. Out of nowhere. Yellow/orange sparkling hair, glowing skin, ocean-blue eye that saw through and touched my soul, a silver heart-shaped locket around her neck. I was either dreaming, or already dead and in heaven.
She was swimming like a fish, with a strange bikini bottom of metallic spandex all the way to her funky flipper gear. Then, everything started to fade away. And then, she kissed me. Not with air or water, but with life and love. She pulled me to the surface where I coughed and choked...and everything turned to black.
When I awoke, my surfboard was lying next to me, the tide lapping my feet. I had a throbbing headache. Dehydration had caused me to pass out. The rest was a dream. But then I felt the sting in my palm and opened it to see...a sparkling silver heart. Had I pulled it off her neck when she had saved me? Could I find her again? And who/what was she? A mermaid??!
