Booktalk:
The legislators in Columbus had pulled the funding for the Ethiopian wolf breeding program for the International Center for the Preservation of Wildlife—the Wilds, the night before Aunt Mary Athena, the director of Orleans Cosmetics Research and Development arrived for a visit straight from France. So Salt’s mother, the head of the facility, was going to the capital to knock some heads, and his father was accompanying her to make sure that no one was irretrievably harmed. Aunt Athena agreed to watch things while the adults were away. But, something was wrong with aunt Athena. To Salt and his friend, Ham, there was something seriously suspicious about his aunt. Not, however, to Ham’s sister Candi who worshiped the ground aunt Athena walked on. She seemed to have too much interest in the dragons. The first dragons hatched in the States. Salt and Ham refused to divulge the location of the dragon nests to her. Candi, on the other hand, was more than happy to impress her idol with her knowledge of how to find them. Then, one of the nine baby dragons came up missing. Aunt Athena, with Candi’s help, had captured it. But, the dragon was no use to her alive . . . Sam Marsh April, 2005 for Fall, 2005
