Booktalk:
Imogene is determined to stay out of trouble at her new high school. Hey, she might even try to actually go to class…most of the time. But she is definitely not going to get mixed up with any gangs, not like at her last high school. Nope, this time Imogene is going to find one friend. Just one friend. Someone who is nice and quiet and who stays out of trouble. And then she is just going to lay low, not get into trouble and hopefully survive high school without becoming a juvenile delinquent. You’d think this wouldn’t be too hard. Imogen does find her one friend. Maxine is a nice, quiet girl who makes good grades and makes no trouble. But trouble just seems to find Imogene. It started with that annoying cheerleader/football clique that kept making fun of her punk-style clothing. Then the dead guy started stalking her. How are you supposed to make a ghost stop stalking you? You can’t threaten him, he’s already dead. And then, despite Imogene’s determinatio to stay away from those oh-so-bad-for-you gangs, she manages to get herself on the wrong side of a gang of mailcious fairies. How does that even happen? Life doesn’t get any better for Imogene when her imaginary friend from childhood, Pelly, turns out to be real and turns her skin blue to protect her from the soul-eaters. It’s the soul-eaters Imogene has to worry about. They don’t just want to stalk you, or make fun of your choice of clothing. They want Imogene’s soul. They want to end her very existence.
