Booktalk:
16-year old Rose Nolan arrives with her family at Ellis Island. They've just come from Ireland, and Rose feels she at last has reached the Land of Opportunity. But her Rose's baby brother and her father are sent back.
Rose and her mother and her two sisters try to stay with some relatives, but it is very obvious that they are not wanted. Roses' mother hates it so much that she decides they're all going back to Ireland. Rose and Maureen refuse to go. The opportunities are here in America - there is nothing for them in Ireland. And when they are left in New York City on their own, they go out and find jobs. At the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.
