“All the world loves a jumper!” That’s Scooter talking. Scooter’s one of those guys the girls go crazy for – good looking, rich, a little bit dangerous… He’s dating Elisa, Dru’s best friend. Elisa is a fragile person, a girl who’s been on the outside looking in, at least until Scooter began dating her. Now Dru hardly sees Elisa any more and Elisa has been accepted into the “in” crowd. But she’s changed, too. She’ll do anything to hang on to Scooter. She seems desperate and afraid – as though she has to constantly guard against being herself and turning Scooter off.
And now Scooter’s come up with this hare-brained scheme: he’ll jump The Nail. The Nail is a 90-foot cliff above the ocean where the water is said to be bottomless. Daredevils before have taken the plunge, but no one has jumped since the terrible accident 10 years ago when a girl jumped, hit a bulge in the rocks and broke her back. No one has thought about jumping – until now.
Will Scooter jump? Worse yet, he’s made an agreement with Elisa that they’ll jump together, to show their love for each other. Dru tries to talk some sense into Elisa. The question is: will they? Or won’t they?
