Booktalk:
How young and foolish she was when father was crowned. She had kissed him, curtsied, and called him King of Scotland. Which he was! He had laughed and said "'Father' will do when we are alone, Marjorie." Every eleven-year-old girls dream to be a princess had come true. Only a few months later, she lay in a cage, filthy and shivering like a wild beast. Spirit bent, if not broken. Even the monks could not speak with her. They treated me horribly, asking me questions to betray my family and friends. "Answer to the king's justice," she was told. He meant Longshanks, the Kink of England, sworn enemy of her father and ruthlessly ambitious. She was just a child, and her father did not make war on children. Obviously Edward Longshanks did. She was exposed to wind and rain, thrown taunts and garbage. Her only recourse was to stand up to him. For, caged or free, she was still a princess.
