Booktalk:
"You can't just let the kid go like that! She's clearly got First Sight and Second Thoughts! She impressed you, right? I know . . . because you were quite nasty to her, and you always do that to people who impress you," said the Toad after Tiffany left. "Do you want to be turned into a frog?" asked Miss Tick. "Well, now, let me see . . . Better skin, better legs, likelihood of being kissed by a princess one hundred percent improved . . . why, yes. Whenever you're ready, madam. Anyway, I rather liked her." "So did I," said Miss Tick . . . but a chalk witch? Jenny . . . was only a Grade 1 Prohibitory Monster . . . There'll be much, much worse than her. Somewhere, all stories are real and all dreams come true. All the monsters from under the biggest bed in the world will be showing up. I'm going to try and get some help." "You can't leave her alone with them," insisted the toad. "She won't be alone. She'll have you." said Miss Tick. "oh." So, when Tiffany returned, the toad was waiting. She told him about the little men that had been helping her. "Ah, yes, you've got Nac Mac Feegles!" said the toad. "Also known as pictsies. They call themselves the Wee Free Men. They're rebels." When she told the toad about how they had helped her with the chores, returned the sheep, and she had left some milk from them, the toad was shocked! "You gave them milk? You got something back from the Nac Mac Feegle? They did chores? They never do chores. They're not helpful at all!" He told her about the problems of the monsters coming and how Miss Tick might be too late and how there was no one to stop them. "There's me," said Tiffany. "Were you a handsome prince?" asked Tiffany. "Yeah, right, maybe," said the toad. "Or I think I Know I was a person, but maybe I was just a toad that got on a fairy godmother's bad side and she made me think I was human once. Maybe there's nothing for me to turn back into."
