Okay, so I shouldn't have asked for an $800 motorbike for my birthday. I mean, we were farmers, and didn't make a bunch of money like Randy's town family. But, I never in my wildest dreams thought that mom would side with dad in having me work with the migrant farm workers to earn the money myself. But, no problem, I could earn the money in the first month and then have the rest of the summer off to enjoy with my bike.
But, then there were taxes, and birthday presents, and movies. And, then there were the prejudices against the migrant workers who "took jobs away from real Americans!" Yeah, jobs that no one from our country would take because of the backbreaking labor and low pay. It was going to be a long, instructional summer.
