Booktalk:
Tria had been accepted to the School for Sorcery. Finally, she would be able to learn about and practice her gift. The gift wouldn't languish and anthropy like her mother's had. She could use it as a positive force in the world. To help people.
But, when she got to the Lesley Simonton School for the Magically Gifted, it just didn't fit the description in the recruitment brochure. It was crumbling and faded brick. And the food...UUGGGHHHH!!! Her room was a mess, and she spent the first afternoon, since her roommate wasn't there yet, making it at least partially presentable. Suddenly it was dinnertime and she was filthy. She couldn't go to dinner, and it would be too late by the time . . . She glared at the clock, the face on it blurred, thunder crashed, the building shook, and she clutched the back of the desk chair to remain standing. Everything snapped back to its normal size . . .except the clock show it was an hour earlier now. That gave Tria time to clean up and get ready for dinner. Things were looking up.
Except that it had been Tria who had turned back time. Something that was totally forbidden by the Student Rights and Responsibilities Manual which Tria should have spent the afternoon reading. She was hauled in front of the rest of the school (thirty odd students), forced to admit her error, and forbidden to use her talents until permitted to do so by the Headmistress.
Then, her roommate Lina turned out to be a panther shape-shifter who had no regard for the rules. Or much of anything besides power. When Lina forced a showdown, Tria was forced to use her talents to protect herself from Lina's panther form. Lina gave in "for now." But she wouldn't forget her defeat, and would wait for her revenge. Tria would have to be on guard. Especially at night.
