Booktalk:
Ok. It was like this: I was one of the rich kids; Filthy rich; Easy life; No hassles; Bright future; Fairly smart; Pretty Athletic; Reasonably handsome (according to some); the world in my pocket.
Now its like this: Dirt poor; lives on the wrong side of the tracks; lives with eccentric aunt on the wrong side of the tracks; must work to help make ends meet; lots of hassles; future?
Why? Because of my deadbeat, stupid, lying, cheating ex-stockbroker dad! Seems he did some of what you might call 'insider trading' to make his money. And, forgot to pay his fair share of taxes. And got caught at it. And, tried to run out through the kitchen when the cops and government guys showed up at our house. He got as far as the stove. Now, he's in jail. But, according to mother, he's a different kind of criminal. He's a white-collar criminal who didn't really hurt anyone (although those who lost money while he gained it might disagree). And, he cried when they carted him off.
So, I had to go from the life of leisure to the toil and drudgery that I now have. I had to get a job. When the gig at Fast Burger wasn't working out, the 70 year old who took care of cleaning our (and nearly everyone else's) pool offered me a job helping him.
And that . . . is where my story really begins.
